Gunfleet Sands Offshore Wind Farm consists of two phases, Gunfleet Sands 1 and 2. The construction phase for the total project comprising Gunfleet Sands 1 and 2 commenced in September 2008. Commissioning started in 2009, and the wind farm reached full production during the spring of 2010.

In 2009 Ballast Nedam Offshore Energy as a sub-contractor of MTHøjgaard pile-drove and drilled 48 monopile foundations for the Gunfleet Sands Offshore Wind Farm, located 7 km off the Claytonon-Sea Essex coast in the Northern Thames Estuary.

These foundations has been successfully installed from the heavy lift vessel Svanen march-august 2009. Each monopile is 5m diameter and weigh 225 tons. They are driven up 40m into the seabed by hydraulichamer. Placed on top of each monopile a Siemens 3,7 MW wind turbine.

This job was executed with the Wirth PBA 936 with a drill bit with 4,5m diameter. This PBA 936 is hydraulically driven by a Power pack and works with the reverse air lift drilling principal.
