- Quaywall piles
- PBA 306
In 2007 Ballast Nedam in joint venture with Danish Per Aarsleff signed the contract with St Maarten Harbour Holding for the construction of the cargo port expansion.
For the Cargo Quaywall the soil conditions in the rocky coastline called for a special approach. The piles were placed by a vibrating hammer. Upon refusal the DDC Wirth PBA306 drilling rig was placed on the pile to drill until designed pile toe level. After removing the drill rig the pile was driven into the rock.
The Wirth PBA 306 with drill bit 1100mm diameter is hydraulically driven by a power pack and works with the reversed airlift drilling principal for soil removal.
